The operation was conducted around the Embung Jokowi area and the GMR Aeropolis 2 complex in Landasan Ulin district, where parts of the peatland were still emitting smoke.
Although no large flames were visible, heat and smouldering material remained beneath the peat surface, posing a risk of renewed fires.
Personnel from the wildfire task force of Sjamsudin Noor Air Base searched the affected area for remaining hotspots and directed water onto sections that were still hot or producing smoke.
Peat fires can spread beneath the surface and re-emerge away from the original burning area, making surface suppression alone insufficient. Firefighters therefore focused on both extinguishing visible hotspots and saturating sections of peat that remained at risk of reignition.
The location near residential areas added to the urgency of the operation, as any renewed fire could spread to surrounding areas and affect nearby communities.
Authorities and residents continued monitoring sections of the affected area for smoke and signs of renewed burning after the firefighting operation.
