TitikKabar.com | JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Manpower Ministry Secretary-General Cris Kuntadi has highlighted five key areas for developing vocational education that meets labor market needs: skills and character, adaptability to technology, learning infrastructure, institutional governance, and the contribution of graduates to workplaces and society.
“We are not merely trying to produce skilled graduates. We must develop people with integrity, discipline, competence and a strong work ethic,” Cris said in a speech marking the ninth anniversary of the Ministry’s Polytechnic of Employment (Polteknaker) in Jakarta on Tuesday (Aug. 18).
Cris said rapid technological change requires vocational graduates to embrace lifelong learning and adapt to evolving workplace demands.
He also stressed the importance of adequate physical and digital learning infrastructure, as well as transparent and accountable institutional governance to ensure educational resources are used effectively.
“The success of vocational education should ultimately not be measured only by the number of graduates, but by how much benefit they provide,” he said.
Cris said he hoped Polteknaker would continue to improve the quality of its education and produce graduates with the skills, character and competitiveness needed to contribute to Indonesia’s evolving labor market.(Janne Sinten)
