TITIK KABAR ■ JAKARTA — Jakarta police have deployed medical personnel to provide emergency assistance during public demonstrations in the capital on Thursday, as authorities prepare for possible health incidents among protesters, police officers and other members of the public.
Medical teams from the Jakarta Police's medical and health division have been stationed at protest locations to provide first aid and basic medical services if needed, police said.
Police have also arranged access to medical facilities for cases requiring further treatment, according to the force.
“The medical personnel have been prepared to provide assistance to members of the public who need health services,” Jakarta Police spokesman Commissioner Budi Hermanto said in a statement on Thursday.
He said the deployment was intended to ensure that people taking part in the demonstrations, as well as those carrying out activities around the protest locations, could access medical assistance if necessary.
The police urged protesters and members of the public in the surrounding areas to pay attention to their health and maintain order during the demonstrations.
“Public expression is part of the democratic process and should take place in an orderly manner,” Budi said.
The medical deployment is part of broader preparations by authorities for demonstrations taking place at several locations in Jakarta on Thursday.
Police have also deployed personnel to manage security and traffic around protest sites, with traffic diversions to be implemented if crowds cause significant congestion or block roads. (Janne Sinten)
